Tombstone of Apollonides, son of Hippias of Gela, 300–250 BC; Ptolemaic period. Found at Zawiyet el-Mayetin near Minia, Kom el Ahmar. Greek inscription. Height 58.5 cm, width 32 cm, depth 9 cm, weight 25.5 kg., A tall rectangular stone slab with a triangular pediment at the top, showing a rough, weathered surface and chisel marks; the stone is mostly beige and light tan with areas of darker brown discoloration and small patches of off-white; the top edge has a raised triangular molding and some chipped and uneven edges, the sides are straight but worn, and the bottom edge is irregular and broken with a jagged texture; the face of the slab has shallow, incised grooves and a few shallow depressions and scratches across its surface, giving it a pitted appearance; overall the slab appears solid and aged with a muted palette of beige, tan, brown, and off-white.
