In the background are four busts: center — Mary with her head bowed toward Christ; to her left a frontally positioned female bust gazing straight ahead; on the right a frontally depicted Saint John the Evangelist with hands folded in prayer; to the right of St. John a female figure touching Christ's feet. The sides of the composition are closed by two men shown en trois quarts. An illegible coat of arms is on the front.
