The Entombment - bas-relief probably fragment of a predella, unknown artist Mazovia, The Entombment iconography. The bas-relief is a rectangle; in the foreground Christ lies horizontally on a sheet supported by two men, hips covered with a perizonium, arms crossed on the perizonium, nail marks on the hands and legs. Legs stiffly outstretched, parallel. In the background are four busts: center — Mary with her head bowed toward Christ; to her left a frontally positioned female bust gazing straight ahead; on the right a frontally depicted Saint John the Evangelist with hands folded in prayer; to the right of St. John a female figure touching Christ's feet. The sides of the composition are closed by two men shown en trois quarts. An illegible coat of arms is on the front. Dated after 1500 attributed to an unknown town in the Lowiecko district, probably from a workshop in Warsaw, bas-relief, height 39.8 cm, width 115.8 cm, depth 3.7 cm., A roughly rectangular wooden plank with an irregular top edge that has a scalloped silhouette, showing worn and chipped areas; the surface displays a range of brown tones from dark brown to lighter tan with visible wood grain, scratches, gouges, and patches of rough texture; a few small holes and a larger irregular hole near the upper left area; some areas show remnants of a darker coating or stain and lighter worn spots; there are several small rectangular paper remnants attached at different points but their content is not described; the background is a flat neutral gray.
