Bottle, Egyptian workshop. Painted Coptic pottery, 6th century, Egypt. Nile clay with distinct golden mica flakes, low porosity. Low, wide annular foot; belly walls widely flared at the bottom then bent inward at approximately one-third of the vessel; neck reflected. Decoration painted in black and white, banded: below the neck a white zigzag band adorned with a diagonal black check motif; below that a strip of vertical lines painted alternately in black and white, framed by double black stripes. LRO type item. Vessel; height 17.5 cm, body width 11 cm, outer rim diameter 8 cm., A rounded clay vessel with a narrow top and a flared foot, showing worn painted bands and geometric patterns, sits against a plain gray background; the vessel surface displays a mix of reddish-brown, terracotta, black, faded beige, and pale tan tones, with areas of paint loss and surface abrasion, and decorative horizontal stripes and vertical brushlike marks encircling its midsection.
