Fragment of a stele with an inscription in Arabic, unknown creator/scribe, excavations, Islamic art, Arabic culture, Kufi script, contains a fragment of the Quran 67:1, probably a funerary stele, 2nd half of the 11th–1st half of the 14th century, Faras, Sudan; stele; smoothed surface; height 32.0 cm, width 34.0 cm, depth 12.0 cm, A roughly rectangular stone slab stands upright against a pale gray background, showing an uneven surface with weathered textures, small chips, and visible cracks. The slab displays shallow incised marks across its face and subtle irregularities along its edges, with one rounded corner and a slightly tapered side. The visible colors include shades of brown ranging from light tan to darker brown, small areas of gray, and the surrounding backdrop in pale gray.
