Fragment of a stele with an inscription in Arabic, excavations, Islamic art, Arabic culture, Arabic inscriptions in Kufi script containing a fragment of the Quran 67:1. Probably a funerary stele. Surface smoothed. 2nd half of the 11th–1st half of the 14th century. Origin: Faras, Nubia Sudan. Stele; height 32.0 cm, width 34.0 cm, depth 12.0 cm., A roughly rectangular stone slab with rounded edges and an uneven surface, shown standing against a plain light gray background. The slab is a dusty brown-gray color with areas of slightly lighter and darker brown, and small patches of pale off-white on the sides. The front face shows shallow incised marks and irregular indentations across its surface. The left side has a vertical row of rounded hollows and some textured roughness, while the right edge is a bit more worn and chipped. The top edge is uneven with a subtle curve, and the bottom edge is slightly thicker and irregular, allowing the slab to rest upright. The overall appearance is matte and weathered, with small scratches and surface variations visible.
