Fragment of a stele with an inscription in Arabic, unknown creator/scribe, excavated in Faras Sudan, Islamic art, Arabic inscriptions in Kufi script containing a fragment of the Quran 67:1; probably a funerary stele. 2nd half of the 11th–1st half of the 14th century. Origin: Faras, Sudan. Stele; height 32.0 cm, width 34.0 cm, depth 12.0 cm. The surface of the block is smoothed., A roughly square, flat stone slab with an uneven, worn surface and rounded edges, shown against a neutral light gray background; the slab is primarily shades of brown and tan with subtle variations and darker brown spots, faint incised lines and shallow depressions visible across its face, and a few small chips and a crack along one side; the overall texture appears rough and weathered.
