Fragment of a conical bowl or possibly a large funnel, tabletop or kitchen vessel. Egyptian workshop; bowls with engraved decorations, Coptic vessels. Made of type B Nile clay, compact with a small amount of organic admixtures and particles of golden mica. Fracture shows a dusty pink outer and dark grey core 7.5R5/4-10YR4/1-7.5R5/4. Outer surface finished with pink-tinged whitewash 5YR8/3; inner surface unfinished light reddish-brown, 2.5YR6/3. Straight spout with rounded edge. Outer surface below the rim decorated with vertical incised bands made with a stick or reed; incisions converge toward the bottom. Fragment was likely reused, as two side fractures are covered with a thin layer of gypsum mortar; similar substance found on the inner surface near one fracture. 7th–8th century, Tell Atrib.
