Deep plate with a spherically formed bowl. Horizontally protruding rim, wide, thicker at the edge. In the centre of the bottom is the image of a fish: body covered with scales, forked tail, two schematic dorsal fins. The fish is surrounded by three concentric circles; between the two closest to the center, a braided pattern runs to the right. On the edge, evenly spaced black dots are painted, connected by arced lines that form an oval space between them. Below the edge, a braided pattern runs to the right. In the highest part of the bowl, just below the break separating the rim from the bowl, a wavy line is painted with black dots in its bends. Pink clay, engobe ranging from yellow to light brown, decoration in black. 6th–7th century, Edfu; vessel. Height 12.1–14.2 cm, rim diameter 60 cm, foot diameter 19.1 cm. Maker: unknown Aswan workshop. Classification: bowls, painted Coptic vessels, figural decorations, Late Roman; braided and floral decorations., A large circular shallow bowl seen from above with a warm orange-brown interior and a darker brown outer rim, showing a central circular area with faded darker markings and a few irregular lighter patched areas where the surface appears worn or restored; a decorative band near the edge featuring a repeating wave-like motif in muted gray and brown tones with small dark spots, and visible hairline cracks and repair lines across the surface; the background is a flat dark gray.
