Pablo Picasso, 1950

Caption

In 1950, in Vallauris (France), the French artist Pablo PICASSO stands next to his latest creation, a sculpture entitled L'HOMME, CET INCONNU. In 1950, PICASSO showed an inventiveness not without a certain humour. His playful sculptures are daring assemblages of all kinds of materials (bronze, metal parts, ceramics, cardboard, wood, string) but also of found objects and are in line with the continuity of the cubist collages. The wicker basket, at the centre of this composition, is an element found in two other sculptures from 1950; it is part of the composition of another assemblage, LA PETITE FILLE SAUTANT A LA CORDE, and serves as a model for the bronze LA CHEVRE.
