Triumphal Arch on the Alexandra Railway Bridge at Wuzeerabad, from a sketch by one of our special artists, 1876. 'The Prince [of Wales, future King Edward VII) was accompanied by some of the Maharajah's courtiers and nobles...proceeded to Wuzeerabad [Wazirabad], where the Prince was to perform the ceremony of completing and opening the "Alexandra" bridge of the Punjaub Northern State Railway. This railway-bridge over the Chenab has been constructed under the superintendence of Mr. Alexander Grant, C.E., engineeer-in-chief, and Mr. Henry Lambert, executive engineer. It was commenced in November, 1871, and is a very great work of its kind, being 9300ft. long, in 61 spans, with foundations 70 ft. deep: it is said to be the longest bridge in the world'.
