Looking down from old fort, Mackinac Island, Mich., c1908. Showing ships at a dock, including the black hulled steamer Juniata. Fort Mackinac was built by the British during the American Revolutionary War to control the strategic Straits of Mackinac between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. The 'Juniata' was built for the Anchor Line, the Great Lakes marine division of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
