Testimonial presented to Mr. C. A. Saunders, Great Western Railway, 1856. 'The testimonial, which had been got up so privately that Mr. Saunders knew nothing of it till within a few days of the presentation, consists of a pair of silver Claret Jugs and an elegant Epergne, supported by finely-modelled figures of Justice, Industry, and Wisdom. The plate was designed and executed by Messrs. Hunt and Roskell: the epergne is surmounted by some exquisite artificial flowers from the studio of Mrs. Stodart, a floral artist of great talent...[The inscription reads:] Presented by the officers and principal clerks of the Great Western Railway Company to Charles Alexander Saunders, Esq., as a mark of their sincere regard and esteem, and an acknowledgment of the great kindness they have at all times received from him'.
