Theodore Roosevelt at National Museum, between 1914 and 1917. Former US president (third from left) visits taxidermised wildlife display, Washington, D.C. Later renamed the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the museum holds Roosevelt's East African flora and fauna specimens collected during the Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition of 1909-10. The expedition collected around 11,400 animal specimens, which took Smithsonian naturalists eight years to catalogue.
