Portrait of James Fern Webster, 1862. James Fern Webster was an engineer and prolific inventor who lived and worked in Solihull Lodge (West Midlands) in 1870-80. He developed a process for making the extraction of aluminium cost effective for the metal to be used in the manufacture of everyday objects.
