Caption
Fire at Richmond, 1844. A crowd outside the Cricketers' Tavern, Greenside, Richmond, west London: '...the policeman on duty, whilst going past the Cricketers, observed smoke issuing through the crevices of the shutters. He raised an alarm; and, on the door being forced open, the whole of the bar was found to be in flames. The engines soon arrived, but the flames had got such a hold of the building, that they were of very little use'. From "Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol V.
