'Last Time the Caprons, Father and Son, Met', Spanish-American War, June 1898, (1899). Ships in the harbour at Port Tampa, Florida, USA. The 'Comal' ('number 7'), was commanded by Captain Allyn Capron Senior, His son, Captain Allyn Capron Junior, was on board the 'Yucatan' ('number 8'). Both ships were taking troops to Cuba where, only days later, Capron Junior became the first United States Army officer to die in the Spanish-American War. He was awarded a posthumous Silver Star. Capron Senior contracted typhoid fever during the campaign and died weeks after his son, in September 1898. From "The Little I saw of Cuba" by Burr McIntosh, with photographs by the author.
