Proclamation by Napoleon to his 'brothers in arms', 20 May 1796, (1921). 'Proclamation de Bonaparte à ses frères d'armes. Milan, 1er prairial an IV'. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), head of the Army of Italy (part of the French Army), writing in Milan, claims that the French people will give Europe a 'glorious peace' which will make up for the 'sacrifices of the past six years'.
