Statuette of a Horse, 750-700 BC. Creator: Unknown.
Caption
Statuette of a Horse, 750-700 BC. This cast bronze horse was produced by a Corinthian workshop. Just over 60 examples are known from this workshop tradition. Among this group, this statuette is one of the most outstanding. At 11.5 centimeters in height, it is also one of the largest Corinthian horses, and is also completely intact. Conceived in profile, the horse's form has been abstracted and balanced in a wonderful proportional harmony that appears strikingly modern. Cast using the lost-wax process, this bronze horse on a perforated stand has balanced proportions and radically stylized formal elements designed for clarity and legibility.
