Title
Seated Figure of a Woman, 1-200. Creator: Unknown.
Caption
Seated Figure of a Woman, 1-200. Although the original subject of this ancient Roman statue fragment is unknown, the cut stone at the back of its base indicates that the statue rested on a ledge, probably incorporated into a larger sculptural group. The nude upper body and relaxed pose suggest an alluring mythical woman, like Venus or a nymph, a beautiful female spirit that embodies elements of nature such as water, woods, or mountains.
