'Lady Wavertree arranged her tenth charity tennis party in this year: Cochet, Joan Lycett, Susan Palfrey, ex-King Manuel, Betty Nuthall, Eileen Bennett Fearnley Whittingstall, Ermyntrude Harvey, Elizabeth Ryan, Peggy Wood, and Prenn'. Manuel II (1889-1932) was the last king of Portugal. In October 1910 the Portuguese monarchy was overthrown by a republican revolution and Manuel was forced into exile in Britain.
