May - the town of Riom, 15th century, (1939). 'Mai - La Ville De Riom'. Cavalcade on the first of May, with trumpeters and riders, the women dressed in green. In the city in the background is possibly imaginary, or may be Riom, the capital of the province of Auvergne until the French Revolution. A page from the "Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry", a book of hours produced for Jean, Duc de Berry and commissioned from the Limbourg brothers. Made between c1412 and 1489, and regarded as one of the finest examples of European manuscript illumination, it is held at the Musee Condé, Chantilly, France. Published in "Verve - No. 7, Vol. II".
