'An Incident in the Battles of the Meuse', (1919). Scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: 'The region between the Meuse and the upper courses of the Aisne [rivers], forming a plateau of wooded hills referred to in dispatches as the "Argonne", was a difficult country from a military point of view, and was the scene of desperate and stubborn battles.
