Caption

'Guarding the Banks of the Suez Canal', (1919). Scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: 'Many bombastic threats were made by the Turks as to how they were going to cross the Suez Canal and invade Egypt. So effectively were the banks guarded, however, that the Turkish attacks were completely routed at every point assailed, and their scattered remnants disappeared across the desert whence they came.'
