Ulmus glabra Huds (Wych Elm), c1870-1920. Wych elm is a broadleaf tree native to the UK and much of Europe. Usually found in hilly or rocky woodland. The elm is also known as the ?Wych? is derived from the Middle English Wiche, from the Saxon Wice, which means pliable or supple, most likely a reference to its use in weaving baskets.
