'The Meeting of General Klüke von Klügenau and Imam Shamil in 1837', 1849. Imam Shamil (1797-1871) was a political and religious leader of the Muslim tribes of the northern Caucasus. He led the resistance to the Russians as they attempted to conquer the Caucasus. Klugenau was one of the Russian commanders during the conflict. Found in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow.
