New Co-op central butcher's department, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, 1957. Customers survey the produce on offer in the newly refurbished department. The meat counter shows a varied selection of continental style salamis whilst the title 'Delicatessen' is displayed in the window. This must have been a strange sight only twelve years after the end of the Second World War. The large Avery type scales were a familiar sight until recently.
