Brown Sulphur Springs, Yellowstone National Park, USA, c1900. There are thought to be about 1,000 geothermal features in Yellowstone, including geyser basins, hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles. Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872, extends across Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.
