'The Naval Contingent Crossing London Bridge into Southwark', London, 1897. 'Both Processions on Jubilee day - the Colonial and the Royal - were headed by a few Life Guards, and a strong naval detachment. In the case of the Royal Procession the bluejackets dragged after them six naval guns - no light labour, but performed with an ease and smartness which won universal admiration.' Queen Victoria (1819-1901) celebrated her Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary of her reign - June 1837-June 1897). Her reign of 63 years and seven months was longer than that of any previous British monarch. Here crowds line the streets to watch the military parade.
