Charles II receiving the Duchess of Orleans at Dover, 1670, (1804). King Charles II of England and his sister, Henrietta Anne Stuart, negotiated the Secret Treaty of Dover, an alliance between England and France against the United Provinces of the Netherlands, in 1670. Henrietta was very close to Louis XIV of France, who was her brother-in-law.
