Caption
WH Fox Talbot, British photography pioneer, 1901. William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877) is best known for his development of the calotype, an early photographic process that was an improvement over the daguerreotype of the French inventor Louis Daguerre. Talbot's calotypes involved the use of a photographic negative, from which multiple prints could be made. Had his method been announced a few weeks earlier, he and not Daguerre would probably be remembered as the founder of photography. Photo published in The Process Year Book, by AW Penrose & Co, London, 1901. (Colorised black and white print).
