'Sea-borne Assault: Troops Move In To Madagascar', 1940-1942, (1943). The Battle of Madagascar was a British campaign to capture Vichy French-controlled Madagascar during World War II. During the Landings of Operation Ironclad, British 29th Infantry Brigade and No. 5 Commandos landed in assault craft in Courrier Bay and Ambararata Bay, west of the major port of Diego Suarez (later known as Antsiranana), at the northern tip of Madagascar.
