The First Parsons Turbo-Electric Generating Station, c1916. A steam turbine is a device that extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and then uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating output shaft. Its modern manifestation was invented by Sir Charles Parsons (1854-1931) in 1884. From 'All About Inventions and Discoveries' printed by Cassell and Company Ltd., 1918.
