Jose Antonio Saco was born in Bavamo in 1797 and was the most fervent defender of the freedom of Cuba in a good part of the nineteenth century. Tacon expelled him in 1834 and he was elected deputy and was expelled from the Courts with other Cubans in1837. He was a great polemicist, and fought annexation. He published 'History of slavery' in 6 volumes. Cigar card from the History of Cuba, Geografico Universal, Propaganda de los Cigarros Susini y La Corona, Tabacalera Cubana.
