After two successful defences, Petersen lost his title on points to Len Harvey in 1933, but regained it and the British Empire belt by gaining his revenge over Harvey with a 12th round techical knockout the following year. Four more successful defences followed before he lost on a techical knockout to South Africa's Ben Foord in 1936. In all, Petersen won 33 fights with just 5 losses, 3 of them in non-title bouts against the German heavyweight Walter Neusel. A Churchman's Cigarettes picture card.
