'Fire-bell Gate (and curfew), Barking, Essex', 1845. The Curfew Tower, or Fire Bell Gate, is almost all that remains of Barking Abbey, dissolved by Henry VIII in 1541. The tower was originally constructed in 1370 and rebuilt in c1460.
