Pocahontas saves Captain Smith's life, 1607 (c1880). John Smith, a member of the Jamestown colony in Virginia, after being captured by Native Americans and brought before their chief, Powhatan. Powhatan's daughter Pocahontas, right, begs for Smith's life to be spared. It is not certain whether the event ever took place.
