Mabel Hackney and Laurence Irving, 1907. The son of the actor and theatre manager Henry Irving, Laurence Irving was a dramatist and novelist. He married Mabel Hackney, an actress. The couple drowned in the sinking of the 'Empress of Ireland' in the St Lawrence River, Canada, in 1914.
