Lifting of an impost at Stonehenge, 1901, (c1920). Restoration of the ancient monument. The Stonehenge complex on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire evolved in a series of stages between about 3100 and 1600 BC. The great Neolithic Sarsen circle was erected between 2500 and 2000 BC.
