Gilt bronze garuda, Tibet, 17th century. A gilt-bronze standing garuda (giant bird god). The legs are bent at the knees, the thighs have feathers and there is also a feathered tail and wings. The head has two horns and a prominent beak with tongue, a mane of wavy hair brushed straight up painted brick red, and a small Buddha in the hair. There is a bare, protruding tummy, the feet are strongly clawed and have a spike underneath for insertion in mounting.
