Marble head of a Buddhist figure, Eastern Wei-Northern Qi dynasty, China, mid-6th century. Whitish marble head with wide flat face and downcast eyes. The hair is tied in a topknot and the ear lobes are pierced and long. The mouth is slightly puckered with traces of the so-called 'Wei' smile.
