Title

Woman operating a cop winding frame in a textile mill, 1966-1974

Caption

Woman operating a cop winding frame in a textile mill, 1966-1974. The wound cops can be seen hanging from the machine. A cop is a spool of yarn, in this case probably holding the weft yarn dispensed from the shuttle during weaving. The location of this site is unidentified, but it is probably in Lancashire or Yorkshire, possibly in or around Cowling (North Yorkshire), an area that specialized in weaving high class rayon fabrics.
