Waverley Abbey, Surrey, c13th century, (c1990-2010). Reconstruction drawing of interior of abbey church, c20th century. Waverley Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey in England, founded in 1128 by William Giffard, Bishop of Winchester and located in Farnham, Surrey. The abbey was closed in 1536 as part of King Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries.
