Craig Breedlove explaining the controls of his 'Spirit of America Sonic I' car to his wife, Lee, c1965. Breedlove broke the Land Speed Record twice in the car in 1965, with a fastest speed of 600.601 mph on 15th November, making him the first man to break the 600 mph barrier. His record stood until 1970 when Gary Gabelich surpassed it in his rocket-powered 'Blue Flame'.
