Mike Hawthorn in a Vanwall racing car during the International Trophy at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, 7th May, 1955. He retired from the race after 16 laps when the car's oil pump failed .Hawthorn was England's first World Champion driver. He was killed on a bypass when his Jaguar 3.4 crashed in 1959.
