Title
Lindisfarne Priory, Northumberland, 2000
Caption
Lindisfarne Priory, Northumberland, 2000. The ruins of the priory church, the west end of which is seen here across the churchyard, date from 1093-1140. Lindisfarne Castle is visible in the distance. A monastery was founded on Lindisfarne by St Aidan in 634 AD. Nothing of that remained when a Benedictine Priory was founded there from Durham Cathedral. The other ruins date largely from the 13th and 14th centuries.
