Interior of the Medieval Merchant's House, 58 French Street, Southampton, Hampshire, 1988. To the right of the trestle table is a fireplace, a later addition to the medieval house. The house is one of the earliest surviving merchant's houses in England. It was constructed around 1290 as both a place of business and residence for John Fortin, a wealthy merchant who traded with merchants from Bordeaux, France.
