Pipes are being laid along Blackfriars Road, Southwark, London, in front of The Ring and W Cunningham & Co ironmongers shop at no 196. A policeman stands by the railings. The Ring began life as the Surrey Chapel (closed 1881), and from 1910 was a boxing arena. It was destroyed in the blitz during World War II.
