'The idle 'prentice turn'd away and sent to sea', plate V of Industry and Idleness,1747; the master is obliged to get rid of the idle 'prentice, who is sent to sea in the hope that discipline on board ship will reform him. The apprentice is rowed past Cuckolds Point to some ships moored off the Isle of Dogs. A gibbet can be seen in distance.
