Revolution. Lazare Carnot. Nolay 1753 - Magdebourg 1823. French politician and scholar. Military engineer, Deputy of the Legislative (1791) and of the Convention (1792), member of the Committee of Public Safety (1793), he was responsible for organising the armies of the Republic, and Campaign Plans; he was nicknamed the "Victory Organisor". Member of the Directory (1795), war minister (1800), he was opposed to working under the personal command of Napoleon, but accepted a post at the Interior during the Hundred Days period of French history (1815). He was exiled during the Restoration period after accusations of genocide. His most groundbreaking scientific work was that concerning mechanics and mathematics. Along with Monge, he is one of the creators of the modern branch of geometry. 19th Century engraving.
