The 27th July 1214, the King of France Philip Augustus emerging successful at the battle of Bouvines, as a result of a coalition formed with the Count of Flanders, Ferrand of Portugal and the Emperor Otton IV of Brunswick. The forces present: a coalition established by Jean sans Terre (absent from the battle). Around 24,000 men, 2,000 of which were Knights; as well as Philip Augustus, Robert of Dreux, and the Duke Eudes of Bourgogne were present at the battle. Around 20,000 men, of which 1,500 were Knights were in opposition. 19th Century engraving.
